A diffused aeration system is a great way to increase water quality and dissolved oxygen levels which will help maintain the natural clean appearance of your pond while also functioning as an efficient deicer to protect your valuable waterfront equipment like docks & boat lifts. This bubbler-style aerator features diffuser module(s) that sits at the bottom of the pond, connected by weighted, self-sinking tubing, which is in turn connected to an air compressor on shore. The compressor pumps air to the bottom of your pond, helping to ensure adequate oxygen levels year round. The diffuser, also called an emitter, releases several thousand small air bubbles that rise to the surface and produce an upward current releasing oxygen throughout the water column. In this manner, water at the pond bottom is lifted to the surface which also allows this unit to function as a deicer bringing warmer water at the bottom on the pond to the surface.
Sizing for this unit is dependent on the depth and size of your pond. As a general rule, if you pond has 8 foot or less of water depth, a single diffuser will be sufficient for about 1/4 acre of pond surface area. If your pond depth is 9-12 feet deep, then a single diffuser will work for about 1/2 of an acre of surface area. If your water depth is greater than 12 feet then a single diffuser will service 1 acre of pond surface area.
For deicing purposes, a single diffuser will keep open an area of about 15 feet in diameter. we recommend a single diffuser for every 15 feet of dock you have assuming average temperatures in the 20's F in January. If your average temperatures are colder, assume one diffuser for every 10 feet of dock. The average single boat lift should use 1-2 diffusers to maintain open water depending on your average winter temperatures.
These units require a small shed or an aeration cabinet close to your pond to protect the compressor from the elements. Click HERE to browse our aeration cabinets compatible with these subsurface aerators.
